Kid vs. Wild

Well, many of you know how much my children enjoy Discovery Channels shows. They really are loving the fact that they are finally making new episodes of "Man vs Wild" with Bear Grills. For anyone who doesn't know this is a show with a guy that used to be special forces that is telling you how to survive in the wild in the case that you were stranded and had to take care of yourself. He is always during his show saying that the most important thing is to not panic, and get your most important things taken care of...food, shelter, and water.

So, the kids were with my Dad the other night apparently they had some car trouble and couldn't get their van to start. There was a group of them stuck there and Dad told me that Zander announced to everyone. "Dont panic, we have food and we have shelter we will be fine." than followed it with "well, maybe not food but we do have shelter" (meaning the van). 

Just wanted to share what my eight year old survival expert had to say in a true emergency situation lol. Not really an emergency but he thought it was so it was funny! Those shows probably do have some worth after all. I know I have learned alot lol

First Day

Well the first day has come and gone as a matter of fact they are now home from their second day of the year. Other than some crankiness they have right after getting home from school, they are doing fine. Here are the pictures from the first day.

My little ones arent little anymore

Tomorrow Riley starts first grade and Zander starts 3rd grade. This is a picture taken years ago of them. Judging from memory I am guessing Zander is around 3 and Riley at about 1 1/2 or close to that anyway. Look at them they are babies. They arent babies any longer. As I was putting together school supplies and labeling bookbags yesterday I was thinking man its not going to be anytime at all before my kids are grown. Its sad but exciting too. As they grow their personalities come out more and more. They are actually growing into their own people. They are following in our footsteps of faith so far but I cant wait until they understand even more. Its always hard on me the first day of school. I guess b/c it represents each year that they have passed into another stage of growth in every way. Spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

Zander's Big Day

Today was a very important day in Zander's life. He was baptized. What made it even more special was he was baptized in the same baptismal (the same church) that I was at the same age of 8 that I was when I was baptized. I was so proud of him for making the decision that he did.

I was so excited with all the family that made it to the church today to witness this event that will only happen once in his life. Two of his pawpaws, three nannies, two cousins, two great-grandparents, and an uncle...quite a crew

LETS DANCE

Let me just say that I am so proud of Riley for dancing the way that I know she can. She got up on that stage more than once actually 3 times this month. She has done awesome. The photos above are from the recital and the 1890s day perfomance...

One of those days

I had to share what my kids did this afternoon for me. I had kinda got on to them b/c they didnt want to go outside, didnt want to play together, didnt want to play in their rooms were just in foul moods. I told them both to get out of the living room and go to their rooms and just play. It was one of those I had to get them out of my hair or I was going to scream! I didnt want to scream, so I told them to just go in the other part of the house. So, they finally settled in and seemed to be playing well together in Riley's room. I told them they could come back into the living room if they could not grip complain, and fight. They said they wouldnt so in they came. They asked me to come and look at something they did in Riley's room for me. So being lead with my eyes closed down my hall with my 6 year old and 8 year old "leading" me, I made my way into her room and this is what I saw...

This is the entrance is to Riley's room. This is where the "party" was. They got these streamers out of my party basket (I keep on hand to decorate for things)

These are the presents and cards that they made me. They said they did this b/c they love me so much.

I think they thought they were in trouble and wanted to get on my good side, but I'll take what I get.

How many mom's have their kids do stuff this sweet for them...

So, like my title says It has been one of those days, one of the days that I almost lost my cool, probably was a little to harsh and learned that my kids so much want me to know they love me they are willing to give me their toys as presents..that is a picture of grace that is a good lesson learned. They continue to love me when I am unlovable, and I love them when they are unlovable as well..now if we can just make it through the summer

Spring Soccer

Well another soccer season has come and gone for us here in our little part of the world. Zander has been playing soccer since he was 4 he is now 8 and he has played usually at least 2 times a year or 3 in some cases. Outdoor spring, outdoor fall, and indoor winter. Anyway today was tournament day. They only have 4 teams there in his league this year, which is not alot but we are always looking foward to seeing how they do when matched up with all the other teams.

There is a team that they have played many times this year and have never beat not even once. The other teams they have done both lose and win, but not this team. They have never won against them. This team is also a team that likes to brag. At least the kids mouth to our kids and such. The last time we played them when they would score on us some parent would say thats 2 goals, thats 3 goals yelling it really loudly. It was a girl that was scoring so they were laughing saying "show them boys how to play" So, needless to say when it came down to our team and their team being 1 or 2nd place today it all came down to playing them again. We tried to convince our kids that they could do it....they get intimidated by the smack talk ....

So......today the result was....well just look at the photo

In case you cant tell from the photo that is #1 so they finally won against them. They have only won one time but it was the time that it counted lol!

We were thrilled they played so hard they had two games and it was hot and they really earned that win.

Zander had a sliding kick goal in the first game. If I could ever figure out how to upload videos from my ancient video camera into a format I can put on here I would show you mabye I will get the hubby to figure it out for me....

In their eyes

My goal in life. Not to be as prosperous as I can be, or as successful I can be. My goal is that when my kids are grown they will look back and say....wow mom really did focus on us. She made sure we knew we were loved and cherished. All the many things I could do that might be worth more materially now, or might make me feel more fulfilled ...will pale in comparison to the end result to knowing that I was the best mom I could be and while my kids were still living at home I made them feel they were #1 to me.Dont we all want to feel important.....

Of course I know that my relationship with my hubby does come before my relationship with the kids. However, I am blessed beyond compare that I have a hubby that agrees with my feelings that the most important thing I can do right now is to be simply.....MOM......what a wonderful word!!

Thank you Lord for making me the best thing in the world their is....a mom!

Student of the Month

As you may remember February was the month that Riley won student of the month for her class. Zander came home and told us he had been awarded student of the month for March! He didnt get a cute little thing that said it only a small sheet of paper.I didnt get a picture of him for that reason holding it (not much to it) He did get the water bottle though. This picture is of him in his latest Soccer uniform. I thought it was cute and thought I would use it instead.So, drum roll please.......................Here is Zander winner of March Student of the Month for Mrs. Wilson's 2nd grade class....YEAHHHH!!!

Riley turns 6

So, my baby is now 6. That is hard to even grasp, but alas, it is so :(

She wanted to do a Chuck E Cheese party and invite friends from her class and family. She only ended up having two friends from her class come but one of them was her best friend so all was well. We also had one other kid from school, and than family and family friends come. She had fun but was a little overwhelmed I think when Chuck E was out there. She did like it though...I think???

Dont you just love her expression here. She loved her little crown and medal they gave her but didnt so much love the spotlight on her. She only started smiling after everyone looked away.....

The little ball she is holding from her little friend Hudson was the most loved gift of the day I do believe....go figure...who knows what they will like...its a ball with sparkels in it!!

All in all it was a great party. I would've loved to invite more people. However, it was Riley's party and I let her pick who she wanted to invite!
